H2Global’s new €3 billion auction for long-term supplies of renewable hydrogen and its derivatives has received EU approval, including €1.2 billion for regional funding in Canada and Australia. AM Green Ammonia: transmission infrastructure upgrades approved in India
AM Green Ammonia’s plans to use India’s Inter-state Transmission System to transfer renewable energy to its renewable ammonia plant in Kakinada have been approved and necessary upgrades funded by national authorities. Gentari will develop wind, solar and battery storage capacity to supply continuous power to the first phase of the project.
Offshore renewable ammonia production on the horizon
SwitcH2 Offshore and CorPower Ocean will develop a 300,000 tons per year offshore renewable ammonia production facility in Portugal, expected to become operational by 2029. Two separate partnerships - Samsung Heavy Industries & Lloyd’s Register, and MISC & Gentari - are also exploring similar floating production projects.
Government support for ammonia-powered shipping in Japan, Korea
In Japan, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, in cooperation with the Ministry of the Environment will invest $212 million in the domestic manufacture of ammonia engines, fuel tanks and components. In Korea, the national Export-Import Bank has committed to supporting ammonia-fueled newbuilds.
Construction of EXMAR’s ammonia-powered vessels begins in South Korea
The construction of EXMAR’s first 46,000 m3, ammonia-powered midsized gas carrier vessel began in December last year, with the four ordered vessels on track for delivery in 2026, powered by dual-fuel WinGD engines.
COSCO Shipping: China’s first ammonia bunkering operation
COSCO Shipping reports that successful truck-to-ship ammonia bunkering of its retrofitted tugboat Yuantuo 1 took place in Dalian last December, performed by one of China’s largest bunker providers.
Order book grows for ammonia-powered engines & vessels
WinGD has received orders for its 52-bore X-DF-A ammonia-fuelled engines for seven LPG/ammonia dual-fuel carriers. Germany’s Hapag-Lloyd has ordered 24 modern vessels from Chinese shipyards, among them 12 ammonia-ready newbuilds.
Korea Southern Power selected as final bidder in national clean power auction
Korea Southern Power will co-fire ammonia at Unit 1 of the KOSPO-owned Samcheok Bitdream Headquarters power plant, likely sourcing the ammonia fuel from Pilot Energy’s Mid West Clean Energy Project in Australia.
