Syzygy and Lotte Chemical have announced results from the latest test of Syzygy’s all-electric ammonia cracker in Ulsan, South Korea. The unit demonstrated capacity of 290 kg/day of hydrogen produced at 11 kWh/kg, as Syzygy works towards commercialisation of the technology.
H2 Global Energy and its development partners are progressing a range of renewable hydrogen and derivatives projects across the Middle Eastern and North Africa region, including renewable ammonia mega-projects in Jordan and Egypt.
Korean energy company LUPRO has entered into a long-term tripartite production, supply and sales agreement with Oman’s Muscat House and Thailand’s MA Corporation for the production and export of renewable ammonia to Asia, beginning in 2027.
H2Global’s new €3 billion auction for long-term supplies of renewable hydrogen and its derivatives has received EU approval, including €1.2 billion for regional funding in Canada and Australia. AM Green Ammonia’s plans to use India’s Inter-state Transmission System to transfer renewable energy to its renewable ammonia plant in Kakinada have been approved and necessary upgrades funded by national authorities. Gentari will develop wind, solar and battery storage capacity to supply continuous power to the first phase of the project.
SwitcH2 Offshore and CorPower Ocean will develop a 300,000 tons per year offshore renewable ammonia production facility in Portugal, expected to become operational by 2029. Two separate partnerships - Samsung Heavy Industries & Lloyd’s Register, and MISC & Gentari - are also exploring similar floating production projects.
Set to produce 900,000 tons per year of renewable ammonia powered by 3.7 GW of combined wind and solar energy, CIP’s Helax project in Mexico is set to come online in 2028. In Newfoundland and Labrador, CIP has acquired a 90% stake in a large-scale, onshore wind-powered renewable hydrogen project.
The Industrial Transitions Accelerator has chosen Brazil as the first country partner in its “Project Support Programme”. Four renewable hydrogen, ammonia, fertilizer and methanol projects have been selected to receive support in advancing towards FID. Also in Brazil, developers Fuella and Yamna have launched renewable ammonia production projects in the Ports of Pecém and Açu.
A first in the Brazilian market, Yara has commenced the production of biomethane-based nitrate fertilisers at its Cubatão complex, reducing the carbon footprint by up to 75%. The first batch of the low carbon fertiliser has been delivered to coffee farmers in the Cooxupe cooperative.
WinGD has received orders for its 52-bore X-DF-A ammonia-fuelled engines for seven LPG/ammonia dual-fuel carriers. Germany’s Hapag-Lloyd has ordered 24 modern vessels from Chinese shipyards, among them 12 ammonia-ready newbuilds.
